Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 Reviews

Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 Review

So you have read my posting on how to pick a Simmons Beautyrest NxG Mattress and you have decided that you wanted to go with the Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250, but you are looking for reviews to re-assure yourself that this is a sound decision for your hard earned money.

Let me start my Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 Review by saying that you need to listen to your body when you lay on the bed. If your body tells you that this mattress is "a slice of heaven" that you want to sleep on for the next 10-20 years, then quite frankly you need to go with the bed. The one thing I always caution my clients on, is the urge you have to read too many "reviews" on the bed you like, and I will tell you why. The reason that mattress reviews can be misleading is because EVERYONE has different requirements for sleep, so everyone will have a different opinion on the matter. It is one thing that is just fine to take a review at face value and that is talking about pricing and construction, and that is where we shall begin.

Construction:

Coils: (If you read any of my other posts here or on eHow you know how I feel about coils and coil counts...lol)

Now being that I am a self-proclaimed "mattress nerd" I love to know all the specs on a bed, but does it really make a difference with the feel of the bed because there is tempered steel in the coils? In this case it does. The tempered steel in the pre-loaded pocketed coils that make up the Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 give the mattress unmatched pressure relief and postural alignment. That is all you need to know about the coil count in this bed, because any more will just confuse you and is quite frankly a waste of time even discussing.

Ticking (That's mattress nerd talk for the fabric they use on the outside of the bed)

The ticking on the Simmons Beautyrest NxG Series beds feels great. Simmons did a good job matching up a light and fluffy feeling material that doesn't detract from the feeling of the bed. One other note about the ticking is that you will notice that there seems to be some slack on the top of the bed because you can use your fingers and pull it up an inch or so, and this is a good thing. See the non-mattress nerd dose not understand the value in that. See when you lay down on the Simmons NxG 250 the slack allows you to float into your own personal pressure relief, and not have the feeling of laying on the top of a drum head (Sorry Sealy). There are not too many beds that give you such slack and it makes a world of difference. I bet your "mattress guy" didn't explain that little tid bit too ya did he?

NxG Memory Foam:

Now this is the good stuff here. This is where you get all of your pressure relief from in the bed. In the Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 there is 2 1/2" of NxG memory foam. This is not your ordinary memory foam, and in my humble opinion is the best memory foam out there (Sorry Tempurpedic). What makes NxG foam so great in this bed is that it instantly conforms to every nook and cranny of your body, but doesn't feel like the bed is swallowing you.

Now you are now thinking to yourself "But Mattressman I heard that Memory Foam beds sleep hot and make you sweat". Well you are right and wrong by saying that. If we were laying on a Tempurpedic in a showroom we need to have that conversation, but not with NxG memory foam. See NxG aka Comforpedic memory foam is made to dispurse heat as soon as it hits the mattress. It does not need your body heat to mold it like a Tempurpedic does, but reacts to body pressure instead so there is no need to retain body heat in the bed. One other thing to point out is that it is not temperature sensitive like Tempur foam is. See you can put this bed in a meat locker and it will be just as comfortable as in your room. With that said did you know that a tempurpedic bed in a room where the temperature is in the low 60's will feel like a hard wood floor?  Well enough about foam already, but just take this away from the foam section: NxG Memory Foam is awesome for pressure relief

Pricing/Cost:

Now I know it is going to pain most people to spend $2,000+ on a queen size bed, but think of it as an investment in your health. This bed is worth every single penny you will spend on it. It has everything you need to keep your body in perfect posture alignment and provides superior pressure relief. Once you get this Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 at home and sleep on it for a few weeks you will NEVER want to sleep on anything else again. The bummer about these beds is that they are IMAP priced. In plain English that means that the minimum price is set by the manufacturer so they don't get any cheaper then what you will find them for online.

The Verdict
Well the verdict is that this is one heck of a sleep system. It delivers posture alignment and pressure relief so that you wake up more refreshed and there is a good chance many of your aches and pains will go away because they are related to your current bed. Now you may want to know where to buy the Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 plush or firm, and let me tell you just buy it online. If you are reading this you most likely laid on one already and can understand everything I have said in this review. If you like the bed I strongly suggest buying it online and I have provided links below so you can check the latest BOTTOM LINE prices, and if you feel so inclined I suggest you purchase it from there, because their customer service is outstanding and I believe they are also offering free shipping and some other goodies right now without dealing what that annoying salesperson. You owe this to yourself, so start sleeping better and improve your quality of life today.

Because of the competitive nature of the bedding industry click the picture of the Simmons NxG 250 beds below to see the current bottom line, no nonsense prices.

How To Understand The Different Mattress Coil Types

If you haven’t purchased a mattress in a while shopping for one can be a daunting task. Since most people only buy a bed every 10 years you may have forgotten all about mattresses from one shopping experience to another. Then when you go to shop you take it upon yourself to cram as much information into your head as possible, and only then you head out into the world of bedding. When buying a mattress you will encounter some basic coil terminology no matter where you shop, so this can help you compare apples to apples.

Coil Types
There are many different coil types out there. I am only going to talk about the four most common, because all others are some sort of variation of these. I do want to give you a word of caution about coils, DON’T get too caught up into coils. If you read too much into coils you will end up with something you may not like just because some person said the more coils the better. If you choose to get caught up in coil count keep in mind that on a full size you only need 312 coils with a 13 gauge wire and 6 gauge border rod to be considered “orthopedic”. So as you can see more is not always better, because most beds have way more than 312 coils.

Individually Pocketed Coils
Each coil is in what looks like a sock. This allows all the coils to work independently, and therefore reducing partner disturbance. In other words if someone tosses and turns the other person won’t be woken up. These types of coil units provide some of the best support out there.

Bonnell Coil
This is the oldest type of bed coil. It provides basic support in a mattress. The coils in this type of setup are shaped like an hourglass.

Offset Coil
These coils are specially formed with the top and bottom flattened or “offset”. This allows them to be connected to adjacent coils by a helical wire. This type of coil unit provides upgraded support from a Bonnell type system

Continuous coil
Each row of coils is made out of a single piece of wire which twists and turns its way from the head of the bed to the foot. This helps eliminate motion transfer to a sleep partner.

How To Pick A Simmons Beautyrest NxG Mattress

Recently Simmons has released their newest lineup of beds and they are called the Simmons Beautyrest NxG Series. These NxG Mattresses come in four different models. The Beautyrest NxG models are the NxG 100, NxG 250, NxG 400, and NxG 575.
They get their name NxG from the next generation memory foam that is NxG. This foam is made from a patented formula and has an advanced “open cell” design. Now unlike a Tempurpedic it reacts to body pressure rather than body heat, so you won’t get hot in it. Another benefit to the foam is that it has a quick recovery time, so that you don’t have that feeling of being in a pit like you do on a Tempurpedic. The last great feature that is in all the mattresses is that there is no break in period for a NxG bed. The way the NxG feels in the showroom is how it will feel in your home the day you get it.
Picking one of these wonderful Beautyrest mattresses may pose a challenge, but my reviews of the NxG Series may make your decision a little less agonizing.

Simmons Beautyrest NxG 100 Firm and NxG 100 Plush
The starting point for the Beautyrest NxG Series is the 100 Plush and 100 Firm. They are great entry level memory foam beds. In the NxG 100 Series it has 1” of NxG Advanced Memory Foam sitting on top of 980 individually pocketed coils. The firm in this series is the firmest of all the NxG beds. These are great beds for the price. If you look at the 100 Series expect to pay approx $1,700 for a Queen set. They accomplish exactly what you need in a bed: Postural Alignment and Pressure Relief.

Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 Luxury Firm and NxG 250 Plush
This is the middle of the road when it comes to series. Now there is a big difference between the NxG 100 Series and the NxG 250 Series. The difference is that you gain an additional 1 ½” of advanced memory foam. This means that the NxG 250 has 2 ½” of advanced memory foam sitting on top of 980 individually pocketed coils. The level of support is the same as in the NxG 100 Series; however you gain much more pressure relief. This is very important if you are a side sleeper, because the amount of pressure applied to your shoulders and hips is much less, because of the extra memory foam. In my opinion as a Sleep Professional this is the best bang for your buck in the lineup. If you decide that this is the right sleep system for you expect to pay between $2100-$2200 for a Queen set.

Simmons Beautyrest NxG 400 Firm Pillow Top and NxG 400 Pillow Top
The Simmons Beautyrest NxG 400 is approaching the top of the line for the NxG Series. The advantage you gain in this mattress over the NxG 250 is that the NxG 400 has 4” of advanced memory foam compared to 2 ½” in the NxG 250. This provides a much softer feel and much more pressure relief. When you compare the two beds and lay on them both you may not feel that much of a difference between the two to justify the additional $400-$500 in price. If you lay on them both and can’t tell the difference get the NxG 250 and save the money regardless what the salesperson tells you.

Simmons Beautyrest NxG 575 Plush Pillow Top
This is the top of the line when it comes to the Simmons Beautyrest NxG Series. The NxG 575 has 2” of advanced memory foam in it as well as 3 ¾” of latex in it. The latex in the bed makes it a little bit more conforming; however the bed will have a much firmer feel to it. Now if you are the type of person that needs to have the top of the line then go for it, but if not stick with one of the lesser ones and save the cash. Expect to pay $3000+ for a Queen Size NxG 575 Set.
